07 October Bye!I'm done with Live Blog. Blogspot, here I come!
nikhilravichandar.blogspot.com
Meet me there! 15 March What about you? There is just so much competition out there. At every step, there are 300 guys fighting for footing when only 10 can remain standing. In a simple Indian Class Room, there are 60 students. In Bishop Cotton Boys' School, there are 60x8 students per standard. You must be a person with a completely different caliber to come first in the class, let alone the standard. And the scary thing about it is that this is only Bishop Cotton Boys' School. What about all the other countless schools and the rankers there? My parents keep telling me that there is so much competition. They keep telling me that because there is so much competition, I have to be so much more than what I am; that I need to top the school and the city. I never understood them. I always figured that I was getting my marks and that was enough. Ah, how wrong we can be. What about you? 08 March The End of an Era. Goodbye, old friend.
Ah, how far we've both come! I will really miss you.
Last night, I sat up and watched seven episodes of my most favourite show. And, with that, it came to an end.
I'm sure you might have heard of DragonBall Z/GT either from myself or from someone else. And if you don't follow it, I'm sure you wrote it off because it was just another cartoon with a lot of fighting in it. But, I can personally vouch for the fact that that is not true. I've been a fan since my 4th standard year, and at the brink of my 12th, I still am. Nobody tolerates me talking about the show, and I mean nobody. So don't worry, I won't talk about it. But, like I said earlier, it's like saying goodbye to a really old friend; a friend you've shared laughs and gasps with, a friend that you could always depend upon to satisfy that manly urge of fighting one gets, a friend that's always there to be there.
I know I'm not one for blogs such as these. But I really miss the show, damnit! It's taught me so much and given me so much happiness. I once completely cried in a barber shop because the show started at 6:00, and it was 5:56 and my hair wasn't cut as yet. And when I convinced my mum to reschedule my appointment with the doctor just so that I could watch another episode. And when I was just learning to use the internet, the first thing I'd have to look up would be DragonBall Z/GT. I read up on all the stories and episodes because Cartoon Network stopped showing them. I once tried to download a 300 MB file with a dial up modem of some 24 Kbps. Boy, was my dad angry or what :).
And these are just a fraction of stories I can tell you about my Not-So-Childhood Obsession. It's also taught me so much just by character analysis. After watching the show, I WANT to have the 'never say die' attitude. I also want to fly, but that's besides the point :).
Some of you won't understand anything I'm saying. It WILL be Greek and Latin to them. But Thomas, don't write off something you don't know about. Open your mind and think of Microsoft claiming bankruptcy. It's something like that.
I guess, there is nothing else to really say. Goodbye, dear friend :). Drop in sometime and I'll receive you with open arms :). Or, more aptly put, with an open heart :).
29 December A living reality. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. With every aching second that passes by, the number of disgruntled people increases. There is so much hatred in India today, so much animosity. And, truth be told, it's expected.
Imagine a man who lives in a village. He has a family to sustain but no work by which he CAN sustain them. So he travels many many kilometers to a beautiful garden city; a city with hopes and dreams; a city where a software professional is born every 0.9898989 seconds; a city which is home to thousands of Multi National Companies. He arrives and realises that he can find no work, no housing and no money. His thoughts are always with his family, eagerly awaiting some money that he is supposed to send them. After much struggle, he gets a job, if that's what it can be called. It's his specific duty to open the door of the Apple store in Forum. It's his job, if that's what it can be called, to welcome the young and the old with equal courtesy and bow as low as he can with every greeting. His journey to work from the slum he stays takes him exactly 1 hour and three quarters one way.
He isn't earning too much; hardly enough to sustain himself, let alone his family. He sends them 3,000 of his 5,500 Rupee pay check per month and does his best to manage with what he has. And, all the while, every second of his work life, he sees young, spoilt, wealthy teenagers who are out to spend their parents' hard earned money. His blood boils every time he sees the tubby kid walk into the store with some new complaint about how his latest gadget isn't in working order. Further, he feels like smacking the boy down every time the boy gives him condescending looks. He sees food he can never afford. He sees happiness he finds very hard to attain. And at every moment of his work life, he wonders,” Why. Why?! Why?! WHY?!" These questions hit him when he sees the tubby boy and thinks of his own, malnutrition-ed son. He, compadres, is a man ready to blow.
At the beginning of this blog I asked you to imagine. Now, I ask you to shed any and all imaginations. This man is a living reality. He is everywhere, yet nowhere. He's your security guard. He's your driver. He's your dhobi. He is everywhere, yet nowhere. An Angry India is brewing and this generation is definitely going to feel it's wrath. I firmly believe that when you're dealing with people such as these, be very courteous. Smile and always say,” Thank you." It would make his day a li'l lighter, and make your tomorrow a li'l more secure.
09 October On The Theory of Connectivity of Energy. [Must Read]Aim : To prove that all spectators watching cricket at home play a crucial part in the proceedings of the game and the final outcome.
Means : Pure, unadultered Physics and a whole lot of common sense.
Proof : Let us consider the Indian cricketers on the field and the spectators at the ground and at home as a single system. Now, Einstein proved that all bodies attract all other bodies with a certain gravitational pull that is directly proportional to the mass of the body. This implies that each cricketer on the field and every spectator is experiencing a pull from one another.
The sum total of kinetic and potential energy of a system remains constant. In this case, we'll consider only potential energy as only the distance of two or more objects is necessary.
Now, if the cricketers are playing well, all the spectators must stay in their EXACT positions so that the potential energy remains the same and hence, the cricketers will continue to play well. Any sudden movements or change of positions could alter this energy and hence, the cricketer will invariably be inconsistent in his performance. This implies that the spectators play an enormous role in the victory of Team India.
Reason why Team India doesn't play well consistently : Due to India's big population, there are more number of shifts in the position per second. As a result, the potential energy keeps varying and Team India plays inconsistently. Also, when Sachin bats second, more people pace around the room in tension, hence, the variation in potential energy is maximum when the li'l Master Bats.
Reason why Oz play well on a consistent basis : The Australians are known for their beer. So, a huge percentage of the population are out cold after the first few deliveries themselves. This ensures that the potential energy doesn't vary as much and they perform their best.
Assumptions : Here, we assume that only the cricketer and the spectators of his nationality affect the proceedings [ Come on! I'm only in the eleventh grade! ]
Personally, the BCCI must publish this proof and put the blame firmly on the shoulders of the Spectators. :)
This is on a lighter note. But, if we were to think about the implications of 'G' on a serious note, we'll learn that stars SHOULD affect our behaviours and patterns of life due to their tremendous size and the continuous movement from and to them because of the revolution and the rotation of the earth. 09 July He's the guy who sits in the corner and watches. He's the guy who sits in the corner and watches. His eyes are wide with expectation, though his heart is already heavy with the thought of knowing he won't be included. He watches anyway. What else can he do? He's already worked out all his math homework. He's already upto date with all his studies. Maybe he can read his english poem one more time. But he decides to watch them anyway. He observes everything. He sees the smiles. He hears the screams. He feels their joy. And, at the same time, he feels no joy of his own. He's the guy who sits in the corner and watches.
They're all around us, aren't they? The ones who aren't as popular. The ones who don't have amazing friends who'd do anything for them. They're just as nice. They're just as human. I hate it when I see one of them. Once a friend in my class had absolutely no friends. So, every lunch break, he used to go to his younger brothers class and eat lunch with him and his brother's friends. He was in the 10th and his brother was still in shorts. This guy was really sweet. He was super nice and always ready to help. He used to listen to the teacher in class and according to the boys in class, that was his biggest flaw.
Children can be really cruel, can't they? What happens when a guy like this grows up? What countless issues will he have? What about his children then? What do the schools do?! A large part of the population in my school is just socially inept. They can't sustain conversations if they're life depended on it. And when they do, they get shot down by the other cruel kids. I'm not referring to 1st standard or 2nd standard kids. I'm talking about 7th,8th,9th and 10th standard people.
I know its way too much to ask anyone to become a friend of someone like this. But next time you come across them, why not smile and say,"Hey! How's your day going?" I know it would make that person's day. I know that it would make a significant difference. So make it! 03 June From HER eyes. This, again, is an out-there blog entry. Read it. :)
Family. She definitely loved her family. She smiled everytime she thought about them. She knew that they were always going to be there for her. Family.
They say down for a very special lunch. It was very special indeed. It was her birthday. They come once a year, or so people lead you to believe. In fact, they come many many times a single year. Every second you are reborn and you experience a new birthday. But that’s a different story, isn’t it?
So there she sat, with her grandmother howling to the rest of the world to get their behinds to that holy table. Patiently she waited as her grandmother served Lord Ganapathi in true Indian fashion. Eagerly did she greet her family members. And happily did she realize that she was lucky to be part of such a loving family.
Her mother served everyone in just the right proportions, though, not in the right way as was pointed put by her grandmother. There was commotion all round as people got ready to sit down and eat a truly special meal. Water glasses were being thrown in every direction and great efforts were being made to ensure all the items were there and were abundant in nature.
Between her sips of water and chewing of food, she silently sat back and watched her family at full go. There were smiles all round and at the same time there were tempers raging. There were satisfied faces and faces going red with embarrassment. It was then that she realized what she was missing living away from her family. It was then that she realized that she was never ‘away’ from her family.
With a huge effort she had to raise her hand and decline her third helping of rice. With a huge effort she had to find the strength inside her to drink her second glass of payseem. But by looking at the smiles on her grandmother’s, mother’s and nana’s face, she knew that it was worth every sip.
When she finally reclined on a full stomach, she was in heaven. She was able to hear the sound of constant chatter and laughter from her family. She was able to feel the presence of a full house. And as she fell asleep, she was able to feel part of a great family. 01 May Random Observation.
Trust is a lot like Life. It takes a very long time to develop, to evolve, to adapt. But all it needs is one small event to kill most of it. They say the first Ice Age was started because of plate tectonic movements. The strait of Gibraltar was closed and the Mediterranean lost its only source. It emptied into the oceans and changed the density of salt in the ocean water. Now the oceans were more susceptible to freezing, and thats what happened. More heat was lost as the ice on the oceans reflected back a part of the sun's rays. So. More ocean froze. The rest, is history. What I mean to say is that that there is trust. It takes a very long time to build. But in one swift move, its gone. For a long time, you might be oblivious of that swift move. Do you see any evolution of life that has been rushed? You haven't? Thats cause it hasn't lasted through the ages. The same can be said about prematurely trusting a person. But the beautiful thing about Trust is that it cannot be lost forever. You're reading this entry, aren't you? That means you aren't dead. But you know an Ice Age has happened. Thats the beauty of Life. Thats the beauty of trust. But you know what? There are countless number of incidents where you might easily lose the other person's trust. But, you don't. In David Swan, a lesson in my curriculam, Nathaniel Hawthorne says that unexpected things thrust themselves in our path, but still there is regularity enough in human life. To interpret it in one way relative to this entry would be to say that all around you there are actions being played out that will destroy your trust with another, but probability says you'll be in the dark about it. I hate it when I lose trust. I hate it when I can tell a person everything and anything and then, suddenly, I'm unsure. Thats happened to me alot. I was too trusting, but not anymore. It hurts more when you work hard at developing trust, and then, see it break.
Random Observation. 20 April ChickenRead this only if your life is as pathetic as mine and if you're ready to hear my woes. What?! These are VALID woes. ;)
The reason I haven't updated my blog for a while is a very sad, depressing one. So depressing that I'm am a 100% depressed and on the verge of suicide or homicide (Whichever appeals to me at the moment). It haunts me in my dreams. When I'm awake, I think of li'l but that. I go for a walk, only to see a sign which yields mouth watering results. I have only two constant. One if them is now my constant torture. Chicken. Sigh.
I'm veg. No! Please don't die of a heart attack! Please! You're in denial, aren't you? Well, don't worry. So am I. :). Veg? Whose veg?! I'm not VEG . Oh well, maybe I am. Why I'm veg is not the question. The question is, WHAT IS IT DOING TO ME?!
The minute you can't have it, you want it more. This isn't my problem. I've always wanted chicken, when I could have it and when I couldn't. :). I've wanted it all my life and I really can't want it more. But the minute you take away my right of eating chicken, and then you FEEL like eating it for the rest of your pathetic, insignificant life. Chicken. Damnit! The population of chicken is three times that of humans. We must keep them in check! We must eat them! Grrr! Chicken. Sigh.
My friend pointed out to me that KFC will have to shut down soon cause 95% of their turn over was because of Yours Truly. Now, with Prince Charles on their case, they're doomed. KFC. I've had some very happy memories in KFC. Chicken bucket. Sigh. ZINGER BURGER! Chicken. Sigh.
Vegetarians lead a pathetic life. The best part of it being that they don't even know it. Human Beings haven't worked their way up the food chain to eat Caesar Salads and Cabbage. Chicken. Sigh.
For now, I'm veg indefinitely. Hence, there isn't a special Day Of Deliverance as yet. But KFC, Do Not Fear, For Thy Hero Shall Be In The Game Once Again! That is, if I get through my holidays. Gulp. 31 March My Family. This is a random blog. This is my family, my friends and the most annoying people I know. Which category do you fall into? Go figure :)
[The same person CAN be in two categories ;)]
My family's favourite cuss word is Nikhil. When something breaks, the house resounds with the sound,"Nikhil!" When the TV isn't working, the person closest to the TV screams,"NIKHIL!" When the phone bill is enormously large, they scream,"Aditi!" Whoops. Bad example ;) I think they enjoy telling me to do something tricky, then, either way I'm in the wrong. Like when someone tells me to get their chappals quick.. They haven't told me WHERE their chappals are; they haven't specified WHICH chappals; yet, the demand it be brought to them quickly. And its absolutely, positively suicide when you ask them which shoe, or rather, where. Then, the obvious comment arises,"Nikhil! You never do your work whole heartedly. You never put in the effort. You are so detached and uninvolved. Where have I gone wrong when I raised you? *sad look*" I don't know where the shoe is!
My father is more like me than anyone else. We sometimes share the deepest of bonds and at other times, can't stay within a few feet of each other. Like charges repel! But, I owe him a lot more than I can put in words. I believe every child's super hero should be one of his/her 's parent. For me, it was my father. :)
My mother is a gem :). Her internal clock strikes a chord in her brain every five mintues telling her to check up on Nikhil. The chord also ensures that her mind lists all the bad things Nikhil might be doing and what punishment is required for each sin. I imagine that when she's sitting and thinking about how bored she is, she decides to check up on her son and heir. So, where ever she is, she screams,"Nikhil!" Now, that makes my heart skip a few beats? Why? Nikhil is my familiy's favourite cuss word, remember?! So, I'm already planning a defence in my head as to why I didn't do what they think I did.
My sister(s) are gems as well. They go on and on about my short comings, only to turn around and commit them themselves. Unfortunately, both of them read this blog, hence, I will conclude about them here. :)
Don't even get me started with my friends. But some of them.. Some of them are priceless. Who else can come up with 'teri ma ki enchiladas'? :P. Like I said, priceless.
Bhamini is Bhamini. Fair, awesome and absolutely hilarious.
Tooooom! He's the computer geek from the depths of death metal. He seems like a cool, calm and collected guy. Thats before you insult Metallica. Afterwards.. No Comment :)
Karishma. Go read her blog!
Rain Girl! She's the cousin from hell! Muahah! Sorry, I'm feeling goth today. Varsha is amazing. She's smart, rational and cool. Qualities most girls do not possess ;). PEACE! :). Plus, she's written me the best testimonial anyone has ever written me. I'll get to writing yours, Varsha :)
Prakhar! Mera Bhai! I now know that that is correct hindi, as well! Whee! He's my broodaa! He's the guy every one wants to be. The typical all rounder! He's awesome at everything he picks up and don't even try to talk to him in Hindi. Highly creative and one amazing guitarist! Rock on! *head bangs*
Nana. Another mother to me. She's one of the constants in me life. When she isn't at home, it isn't home. When it isn't her food, it isn't food. Nana. I owe her a lot, as well.
My grandparents. You could not meet more jolly, paranoid, eccentric, intelligent, funny and super people. They're always there to give you the confidence you need; the last push. I must say, the most comforting thing I used to hear before I went into my exam hall is my grandfather's words,"I prayed for you Nikhil! The prayer was very good! Just when I started praying the Krishna Parindar came and sat by the wall. It stayed throughout the prayer. You HAVE to do well. Go do your best!" What would I do without them? My grandmother is plain super. She used to put me to sleep with stories; used to make it a point to make me recite a few poems to her; used to send me postcards on which I was to write to her in Kerala and most recently, ask to read my latest poetry (She seems to like torture.) I wouldn't be me without her.
My father's father is the ideal example of a person who never ever compromises on his/her principles. He has led his life with immense discipline and determination. He's brilliant and funny. Plus, there are good bondas at his house :)
Last but not least, me. I come under the special category - awesome. What?! I am! I am, I say, I am!! I love me. Full Stop :)
Like I said, this was a highly random blog. What are blogs meant for BUT to be random?! So, Deal With It :)
26 March An 'institutionalized' man I advice you not to read this unless you are completely jobless. This is just me talking (It can get boring :))
In the movie 'The Shaw-Shank Redemption' there is this scene where Morgan Feeman talks about how he's grown used to the walls of the prison. He can't imagine a life without them and is scared of the outside world. Also, Brooks, another 'institutionalized' prisoner, finally gets bail but ends up commiting suicide. He feared the outside world. In the prison, Brooks was an educated man, a 'high' man. In the real world, he worked in the grocery store parceling items.
Why do I talk about this now? Well, the time has come for me to choose the school I'm going to go to for the 11th. For me, its Cottons all the way. My parents beg to differ. They're all set to send me off to Rishi Valley - a school that is free from politics, partiality, corruption and competition. Everyone is an equal in that school and competition of any kind is not allowed. Its supposed to inculcate discipline in me. Personally, if they wanted to instil discipline in me, I feel it should have been done in the 6th, not in the 11th.
Bishop Cotton Boys' School is the real world. That might not be a good thing for a school; but its a school I've lived in for 12 long years. I'm a Cottonian. Sending me into a sterile environment such as Rishi Valley will always be a regressive step. Its too late to try to shield me from the 'not so nice' aspects of this world of ours.
Do I have friends? Can I sustain a conversation? Can I mix in with a group of people? If yes, then another point of my Father's is lost on me. He says I am an introvert and keep to myself; something that will not help me at all in the future. The only problem is that I'm not! God, there are people begging me to shut up. *sigh*
Law, Economics or Physics; these are all possible paths that I might take. The truth is that I have no real idea about law; all that I know is from books. Staying in B'lore will allow me to go to law tutorials. I can be less confused! Thats better than milking cows in Madhanapalli, RIGHT?!
Bishop Cotton Boys' School is messed up. There are problems with administration, faculty, students and even the darn dust bins. I don't want to be one of them who'll just sit back and complain about my school. I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! I know it won't be easy, but that just makes it all the more appealing. There are teachers who think they are the school; there are selection processes that cannot be more flawed, but I want to make a difference! The teachers in my school have written me off because of the friends I keep. Agreed, my friends were horrible people and have helped me with nothing. But that was one mistake. I should be allowed one mistake. If I come back to Cottons, things WILL be different. My word.
I guess a part of me is scared. I've never seen a world without Cottons; a world without partiality, corruption and pathetic people. I've just understood this school of mine and now I have to leave? I can't! These two years is going to be practical application of what I've learnt! That doesn't mean I'll be corrupt. It means I'll do something about it. Or atleast try very hard. Argh! I guess I'm an 'institutionalized' man to some extent.
Do you really think I'll survive in an all-veg school?! Yeah. I rest my case. 24 March Hah! Are you serious? This is for therapeutic purposes. If you don't understand it, don't bother :).
Hah! Are you bloodi serious? I mean, come on! If you want to get to a person, you don't make an orkut profile thats out to degrade him. If you're doing that, atleast don't change your gender and your name. If I ever make a profile like that, I'll tell the whole bloodi world who I am.
But thats not the point, is it? The point is to 'get to me'. Well, you have to do a bit better than that. All you end up doing is mocking your iq(if that does exist) and making an absolute ass out of yourself. When your identity is revealed, I'll do nothing. I'll be the bigger man. I'll just happen to tell people who you are ;). You've probably done more damage to you that I can do in my entire lifetime.
Plus, after reading that profile, who exactly is going to treat you like a god? The same group that I despise? What you fail to understand is that I don't give a hoot about all of you. You're the plebians that grow up to be stupid and vote for Bush in the Indian elections. You're the people who grow up and blonde jokes are made after. You're the people who grow up and are forgotten the same way the subjects of geography, history and hindi are forgotten. Wait, not hindi, that gives you too much credit.
By the way, whats the whole deal with the profile? If you've read it, its under 'Zenab Ali.' Right? And the entire profile, except for the pics, degrades ZENAB ALI. Hah! The guy is a doofus who couldn't 'act' smart if his life depended on it. Hell, he couldn't 'act' dumb either!
Honestly, I don't care. If the person who reads the profile knows me for NIKHIL RAVICHANDAR, they won't care. Those are the people whose opinion I care about. Not your stupid, idiotic, fickle friends. I probably won't even know its you. I'll probably be staring into your face and I won't know. But you know what? I don't care. This blog will be the last reference I make of you.
The world is full of people like you. Full of people who'll slander anyone and everyone. People who, at the end of the day, are jealous and that jealousy eats into them like a magget eats into whatever it eats into; like a termite eats into wood. People like you pass me by like the wind and I will be all constant (related to some extract from Julius Caesar). If you think I'm acting arrogant, what do you think you're acting like? Mahatma Gandhi?
If you go far in life, then you'll prove me wrong. But then again, if you go far in life, its the same as India progressing in this World Cup. Won't happen unless the match is fixed. You're probably the person sitting with the sample question papers. You'll get your marks in 10th. Hell, you'll get your marks in 12th. But, like a wise person I know said, you'll hardly go anywhere in life.
You probably won't read this. You'll probably go on with your blissful existence and then, wake up one day with a huge hangover and know you've ruined your life. You think I'm angry? Hell yeah! I'm human. Who wouldn't be?! But the difference between you and me, is about 12479376937489689376964869376967396493676937604540269908539026768730687896728967892679286743957205873230687398673286789367539675986785670846754669354589358305830958305895895830552672689 brain cells. You think I'm calling me smart? Well, hell yeah! In the words of another wise person, "Deal with it."
The minute you start talking about people OTHER than me, I know you're a coward. Instead of taking the bull by the horns, you choose to hide behind the red cloth. Instead of attacking your nemisis directly, you choose to attack through another.
Zenab Ali, go rot in hell :)
23 March Fear Fear definitely seems to be the best incentive. Think about it, most students study really hard because they're scared they'll end up in some homeless shelter otherwise. They're scared that they'll grow up and not be able to fend for themselves and then their family. I know I'm scared of that.
Schools also do their very best to strike fear into the child's heart. When you come late, you're punished such that now, you're scared of coming late again. Hence, won't come late. My tuition teacher uses his stick to make us study. If you don't know the answer, you get hit - fear of getting hit makes you study.
When India lost to Bangladesh, Dhoni's house was broken down and security for all the other players' houses were increased. Then, India played Bermuda. It was a splendid performance! But, if one looked into the eyes of Sehwag or Dhoni, they would have seen pure, unadultered fear. And that brought out the best, didn't it? Sehwag played an awesome innings and for the first time in a VERY long time, the entire batting played well. Fear.
Society itself is based on fear. Almost every action of ours is because there is another terrible consequence that we're scared of. We buy milk so that we don't grow old with calcium deficiency. But then again, like anything, there are exceptions. I see no reason for a person to jump off a plane at a very high altitude with nothing but a parachute. A thrill, I guess. A moment of fear-lessness. A moments freedom from the very thing that otherwise governs MOST of our actions.
But then again, there are many other feelings or thought that fuel other actions from us. We spread rumours about someone when you're completely jealous of the person, or, you're just a horrid person. You take your pick.
But remember, you want your work done? Strike fear into the heart of the person you want to do your work. I personally feel thats the most efficient way. Ofcourse, you can use the whole 'sit them down and tell them what you need of them and why'. But does that really work? 12 March EnemiesEnemies
What is the deal with enemies? Is it a person you hate? Or is it a person who is out to ensure you do badly in everything? I know a few people who believe that a friend’s enemy is an enemy. And that is final. They might not even know the person, but they’re an enemy, for better or worse. I've had my fair share of experiences with 'enemies'. People who are jealous of my math marks, or hate the fact that I get picked over them for debate. But again, does that make them MY enemy? Is it symmetric?
A few people completely hate me, for highly trivial issues. As of now I’m indifferent, does that still make me his enemy? Argh! It’s so idiotic, today’s society. Everyone hates everyone. Iraq hates America, Pakistan hates India and everyone hates the Australian Cricket Team. Even in today’s children circles, everyone hates everyone. If they aren’t open about, be sure that stealth late night conversation is taking place between two people with nothing but scorn in their hearts.
But does that mean we must not hate? Or that we must have greater tolerance level? How much of a tolerance level ensures we won’t be a door mat? Argh! Too many questions. But I guess if there was only love- love, joy -joy in the air then it would be plain scary, a bit boring as well.
Today’s society has so many groups. There are the ‘cool’ ones (Note the sarcasm), there are the ‘smart’ ones, there are the ‘I don’t care about anything’ ones, there are the ‘where’s the party?’ ones, there are the ‘we rock’ ones and then comes the mix. But I sense there is more of love for one’s group and hatred for another’s. The cool can’t stand the smart and the we rock, and vice versa. India is said to possess a demographic dividend. If this is what we indulge in, then what’s the point? We will probably be able to boast of a media with the most amount of gossip per second. The animosity, it’s scary.
It reminds me of blind superstitions. But then again, that might be just me. 11 March HindiHindi :) [Fond Memories]
A troubled existence I led with the dreaded language. It would keep me awake at night, leaving me to ponder whether it was ki or ka and why not ko?! It would always pull my percentage down, and pull it down with a smile, at that. It always left me guessing after I submitted my answer paper and the holidays were never holidays. I would sit, calculate and determine the marks I would get. I had to take into account WHO was correcting my paper; if it was the sadistic ol' lady, Nikhil = doomed. If it wasn't, Nikhil = Hope.
That led me to another interesting question, why the second language? Is it to help you in the longer run so that if you find yourself in the marshy backwaters of Kerala you'll be able to speak to people in english AND hindi? Or is it to keep the national language/state language alive? For me, Hindi has been the only thing keeping me on planet earth. It showed me that perhaps, PERHAPS, I'm not all that I think I am, or claim to be. If indeed, we are as smart as we claim to be, then why not conquer hindi. For me, it acts as a dead weight to my ego. Though others may disagree.
I wrote my last hindi exam two days back. Thats right, my LAST exam. Its over for the rest of my life.. Or is it? From Hindi I've learnt NOT to let me weakness grow and instead, nip them in the bud stage. If I had tackled Hindi in the 7th, GOD, life would have been so much easier and simpler. But, alas, I didn't. On a happier note, I can scream,"HINDI IS OVER!! HINDI IS OVER!!"
Hindi also taught me the various levels a teacher would go to to protect her ego and to get herself more business. If a teacher, one of the most respected people around can do what they did, then... [Shudders].
Hindi is over and I'll never have to do it again, that is, if I pass my board exam :P. Now, a world without Hindi seems rather scary. A tad bit lonely as well. Sigh. Farewell Hindi.
All in all, I'm happy. Will be happier when my results come out and they declare me a tenth standard hindi pass. BUT, happy none the less :)
10 March MathematicsMath!
Mathematics. A world of rules made by no one and everyone. It’s a maze filled with greater than, lesser than, equal to and square root symbols. All you have in your itinerary are the big four - + , - , x , / . Problems come your way and you have mere minutes to deal with each one. But the beauty about math is that you can attack the problem from where ever you want; from the middle, and work your way both ways, or from the back to the front. Or you can follow the old fashion way of doing it from the start to the end – Boring :) . When faced with a question mark, attack it with an exclamation mark, and if that doesn’t work, pray. Who said you can’t cheat in math? The same way you write really BIG answers in history when you don’t know an answer, you can ‘cheat’ in math. Vedic Math! Who said you have to multiply 35 into 35 to know the answer? Who said you have to divide 11/7 to know the answer? Who said you have to multiply 14 into 1234534354 to know the answer? Oh, wait, that you have to do :). But if all fails you, pray. Pray like you’ve never prayed before and like you never will pray again. If you’re lucky, a light bulb will flash. Else, in the words of an Australian, “Good Luck, Mate!” As for me, I have my board exam two days from now. My math board exam : The exam in which I MUST get above 97, or else, hide my head deep under the surface of the earth. Certain people I know will never let me forget it, NEVER. And remember, Decimals have a point ;). 09 March Conscience.Conscience.
Its all consuming. It suffocates a person the same way a plastic bag does. It is praised; compared to God even. It is unjust, betraying those who lay their trust in it. It is honored, and proclaimed to be greater than anything one could ask for. It is unholy, arising only to stifle the growth of such as any of us. It is deadly, only because we put so much faith into it. It is said to be essential in leading a happy life; It is the reason I’m bleaugh today. What is it? That’s the million dollar question. It is none other than the highly praised Conscience. . A Conscience that consumes suffocates and is as deadly as deadly can be. I wait to see the day it comes to my rescue, that is, if that day ever comes.
A conscience. Who needs it? Does it REALLY help in leading a happy life? Today, some people writing their Hindi board exam got the question paper before hand. The only thing that held me back is my conscience. The entire year people have gone on and on saying that we should not copy now, it will not help us in our boards. My conscience too has told me that many times. But now, in THE BOARDS, this is what happens. Its not a very happy feeling. If we were to look at the 10th standard year as a smaller version of the world, aren't the people with no conscience going to succeed. Better still, beat those who are steadfast and strongly founded in their conscience. Wheee! Aren't these happy thoughts. This doesn't mean I'm going to give up my conscience, don't worry Ma, it just means that I'm not a fan. More of a reluctant follower. So with that said and done, I wish you a good night. The Sexes
The Sexes.
A mystery. Women. A Fog. Men. The war of the sexes has been around for many years, but its one that will be around for many many more years. Why? How can one defeat an opponent one does not understand? Men fail to comprehend the existence of women, other than those of their assets. Women on the other hand feel they have completely understood men, when indeed, they too are in the same boat men are in.
A woman is a truly unique creature. Unique, that is, for a man. She puts unheard of importance in the most trivial things. And expects men to be just like her girl friends. Women are indeed unique. They choose Oprah over wrestling and condemn the latter. Better still, they condemn those who watch the latter. They fail to understand that men and women aren’t the same. They fail to realize that Men are oranges and Women, peaches. The battle of the sexes is not really a battle. The men are fighting with the women on their terms, on their ideas, on things THEY give importance to. On the other hand, women are the doing the exact same thing, just from their perspective.
A man. What is he? He is more of a rational creature, but I may be biased. He is insensitive to a large extent. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care for the other person, or women in particular. Its just that men don’t give as much importance to ‘feelings’. A woman would find that hard to understand, and I understand that. Men are oranges and Women are peaches. Man is probably a tad bit more immature as compared to women, but then again, whose is it to say what’s immature and what’s not? If maturity is based on sound thinking, logical conclusions and not worrying about unnecessary problems, then men are more mature by a huge way. But if maturity is understanding another’s feelings, knowing how to deal with them and not hurting another emotionally or otherwise, then women take the cake. If its both, then both men and women have a lot to learn.
My thoughts are devised from my own personal experiences with men and women. If a woman or a man disagrees with me, then they must understand that not all men and women are the same. And that brings us to our next point, we must not generalize. We must not say boy A is like this, thus, all boys are like this. The minute we call boys insensitive, we’ve lost the bait. Note, that’s what I’ve done in the above two paragraphs and you either agreed or disagreed with those views. Each individual is different. I know many a guy who is more sensitive than some girls I know. And I know a girl who is more of a guy than most guys. You probably want these persons’ numbers. I don’t blame you. Now, is it wrong for a guy to be sensitive. Sensitive to his feelings, that is. The minute a guy takes offence at something, its a trait to be laughed at by girls. The very same thing said to a girl would ensure a guy a nice, clean slap across his face. But when a girl says it to a guy, and he takes offence, its okay. Its works the other way around, as well. But I guess I'm not well experienced in that, so I'll keep me thoughts to meself.
That brings me to my last question. What do girls want? Do they want the mean ‘badboy’ on a harley. Or do they want the poet who can write romantic poems for them and understand their feelings completely. Or do they want both? The grim reality is that neither exists, or if they do, they’re taken. I believe you accept me as Nikhil. Or you accept me not, I’ll live. 30 March Dark Angles... God Help THe Future Of BangaloreGood day ppl.
